All about Jamie Oliver and the Fifteen Restaurants

Printer-Friendly Format

English chef Jamie Oliver has now opened a branch of his Fifteen training restaurant in Melbourne, Australia.

His colourful career has spanned more than 10 years with many interesting twists and turns. Here's a guide to what he does and where to find him.

You can also see more video from his other TV shows.

The new TV show is on the Ten Network, and local chef in charge is Tobie Puttock. It's supported by the local Fifteen Foundation and operates Fifteen Restaurant in Melbourne. The show rated extremely well, so expect another series!

Keeping up with Jamie Oliver

Jamie has an excellent website and diary (does he writes it all himself?) plus an active online forum.

Jamie started cooking in his parents' pub and says that by the age of 11 "I wasn't half bad at veg prep and I could chop like a demon!"

After cooking at some great restaurants, he went on to make The Naked Chef, the first of many cookbooks and TV shows.

Fifteen Restaurant & School Dinners

The first Fifteen restaurant was opened in London in 2002 and was filmed as a TV series with episodes released as a DVD Jamie's Kitchen. It's great television, watching a man of unbelievable patience put through his paces by a bunch of teens. One critic described it as 'like watching a slow-moving car crash' but he comes out intact (and much wiser).

There are also two (expensive) training DVDs on Kitchen Teamwork and Lessons in Leadership, based on issues raised during the series.

His next 'issues' show Jamie's School Dinners exposed the inadequacy of the food served to English school children.

It featured Nora, the 'dinner lady' (cook) who's now got her own website and cookbook. Also available on a great DVD (with 'explicit language' and 'clean' versions on the same disc).
Here's the intro:

And here's one of the classic scenes from the series, where in desperation to convince a group of students who insist on eating chicken nuggets, he shows them what really goes into them:
