Restaurant & Catering Australia
Best Hospitality Website Award 2007

Printer-Friendly Format

If you're a restaurant, cafe, hotel or caterer in Australia, your website could be eligible to win this prestigious annual Award. This is recognition for businesses large and small - check the entry criteria and join the competition.

Last year's winner Nathania Springs shows how a small business in a regional area can make a very big impact with their online presence. Click here to check their site and those of the other finalists in 2006.

There are also many useful articles in Profitable Hospitality's Online Marketing Department designed to help you create a winning entry. And an important hint: don't forget to add a 'Privacy Policy' to your website.

Entries for 2007 have now closed.

JUDGING CRITERIA
This competition is very easy to enter - if you have a website you are already 75% of the way there.

The information below will provide pointers on what the judges will be looking for in a winning website:

1. INFORMATION provided on the site:

  • Phone numbers, address & email link are easy to find
  • Hours, smoking areas, parking, disabled access and location map
  • Information about facilities and special rooms (including pictures)
  • Information about the local area and attractions
  • Information for potential employees – positions available, about the workplace, email link for contact and a welcoming tone
  •  ‘About Us' information tells about the staff and business owners

2. EFFECTIVENESS as a SALES TOOL:

  • Pleasing use of colour and design
  • Good use of quality photographs to communicate product and atmosphere
  • Detailed menu and beverage information
  • Downloadable menus and beverage lists available (pdf or word)
  •  ‘What's on' or events page with current information
  • There is a privacy policy
  • Visitor and guest feedback and comments are encouraged
  • Email subscription is available for updates/newsletter
  • Copy text is free of spelling and grammatical errors
  • A ‘Google Australia' search finds a link to the business on the first page when business name and suburb/town is entered

3. TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Page loads quickly regardless of user connection speed
  • Links are all active and error free
  • The website displays properly in different browsers and operating systems
  • Free of irritations (including slow Flash animation), pop-ups or “under construction”
  • Ease of navigation, including left and top navigation

4. OVERALL EFFECTIVENESS:

How do you measure the success and effectiveness of your website?
What is the return on investment from your online activity?

The main judging process will be implemented through on-line evaluation of the nominated website.

There is only one criterion requiring additional information - all other criteria will be judged through exploration and examination of the website.

This may include sensitive or classified information, so we ask for a summary of the results you have observed. You may be as detailed or general as you like, based on your level of comfort, although the more information provided the better able the judges will be to evaluate your success. Note that all information will be kept secure and confidential.

NB: ‘Mystery visitor’ requests may be used to test the responsiveness and usefulness of the response to requests made at the site.
